Bernheim Earns the Highest Level of ArbNet Certification

By Hannah Hunt

Bernheim Arboretum is pleased to announce that we have successfully renewed our ArbNet Level IV accreditation.

ArbNet is an interactive, collaborative, international community of arboreta. ArbNet facilitates the sharing of knowledge, experience, and other resources to help arboreta meet their institutional goals and works to raise professional standards through the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program.

ArbNet Level Criteria

Sponsored and coordinated by The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois in cooperation with American Public Gardens Association and Botanic Gardens Conservation International, the accreditation program is the only global initiative to officially recognize arboreta based on a set of professional standards. The program offers four levels of accreditation, recognizing arboreta of various degrees of development, capacity and professionalism. Criteria include planning, governance, public access, programming and tree science, planting and conservation. Click here for more information.

Bernheim Arboretum, the area around Arboretum Loop that visitors are most familiar with, encompasses 600 acres and features over 2,500 species, some rare or endangered. Bernheim joins a short and prestigious list of institutions who have achieved the highest level of accreditation, such as United States National Arboretum, Longwood Gardens, Morris Arboretum, Royal Botanic Gardens of Sydney, The Morton Arboretum, and University of Oxford Botanical Gardens. Receiving this award highlights Bernheim’s commitment to maintaining and growing a strong plant collection and to sharing information with the public.
