15 kid-friendly activities in Louisville May 18-24

Community Field Day.
Shelby Park, 600 E. Oak St., 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Basketball, corn hole, DJ, games, relays and food. Free.

Every Child Outside (ECO) Kids Discovery Day. Bernheim Forest, exit 112 off Interstate 65, Clermont, Saturday. At the Visitor Center. On Your Own Challenge, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Discovery Stations, 1-4 p.m. Hike of the Day, 2 p.m. $5 per car. 502-955-8512.

6th Annual St. Matthews Street Festival. Frankfort Avenue from Lexington Road to Bauer Ave., 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday. Music by Radiotronic, Thunderstruck and Chase Skinner. 5K (8 a.m.), food vendors, entertainments, martial arts demonstrations, Kids Zone (with inflatables and vendors) and more. Shuttle service from St. Matthews Baptist (starts at 10:30 a.m.; last shuttle back to church, 10:30 p.m.).

6th Annual Old Louisville Springfest. First St. and Ormsby Ave, in Old Louisville, 4-9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday; noon-6 p.m. Sunday. Artists, Kosair Charities Kidzone (Saturday from noon-6 p.m.), festival food and food trucks, live music, bourbon slushes and more.

Kentucky Kingdom/Hurricane Bay. Watterson Expressway and the Fairgrounds. Kentucky Kingdom: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday $49.95, $39.95 for children under 48 inches tall and seniors; $29.95 military/first responder. Parking $8, $20 bus. www.kentuckykingdom.com.

Science in Play. Kentucky Science Center, 727 W. Main St., 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday-Thursday; 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday. A progressive, next-generation learning experience for children and their families. Included with paid admission to the Kentucky Science Center. 502-560-7128.

Nature

Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. Clermont, Ky. Open daily, 7 a.m.-dusk. Admission is free weekdays and $5 per car weekends. 502-955-8512. www.bernheim.org.

Blackacre State Nature Preserve and Historic Homestead. 3200 Tucker Station Road, Open weekends and school holidays from dawn until dusk, school days from 3 p.m. until dusk. Admission is free. 502-266-9802. blackacreconservancy.org.

Louisville Nature Center. 3745 Illinois Ave. 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Saturday. Trails are open from dawn until dusk. Admission is free. 502-458-1328.

Louisville Zoo. 1100 Trevillian Way. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., daily. General admission: $9.95 for ages 12-59, $6.95 for ages 3-11 and ages 60 and older. Parking $5. www.louisvillezoo.org.

Yew Dell Gardens. 6220 Old La Grange Road, Crestwood, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday. A 33-acre botanical garden. $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, free to members and children ages 12 and under. 502-241-4788. www.yewdellgardens.org.

Exhibits

Frazier History Museum. 829 W. Main St., 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday; noon-5 p.m., Sunday. $10.50, $9.50 for military, $8.50 for seniors, $7.50 for college students with ID, $6 for ages 13 and younger, free for ages 4 and younger. Additional cost for special exhibits. 502-753-5663.
