Over 150 acres of grasslands are found within Bernheim Forest. These openings within the Forest are part of the agricultural legacy from our early settlers who cleared the bottomlands and ridges for pasture and cropland. Grasslands are managed to provide habitat for a variety of species depend upon the open, sunny conditions for survival and play a central role in the protection of Bernheim Forest’s biodiversity.
