Forest Foray: Winter Raptors

Bernheim Forest attracts a diverse array of winter migrants, perhaps none as inspiring as the raptors. This guided hike leads to an observation spot used to view eagles and other raptors that make Bernheim their home during the cold months of winter. Along the way, learn about the winter bird residents and why winter migrants are attracted to this large forest block. Group size limited to 10.

Forest Foray: Cedar Glades

Cedar Glades are small, natural forest openings. These areas are characterized by a cover of dry prairie and dry woodland grasses and herbs, along with scattered shrubs and trees. Although these communities are very small, they harbor a unique group of plant species, fungi, insects and other organisms. Winter Forest Foray: Raptors of Bernheim

This guided tour leads to an observation spot used to view eagles and other raptors that make Bernheim their home during the cold months of winter. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Registration and payment are due by 4 p.m. on the day prior to start of program; call (502) 955-8512. In event of severe weather this tour may be rescheduled. Bernheim’s Forest Manager position is supported by the Sara Brown Musselman Fund for Natural Areas.
